Support Doug’s Recovery After Severe Car Accident

On January 30th, 2024, Doug was in a severe car accident while leaving a business meeting. As he was turning, an uninsured driver went into the wrong lane, ran a red light, and T‑boned Doug’s truck. The impact spun his vehicle around, trapping him inside while he was unconscious. He woke up to the fire department working to free him and was rushed to the hospital.
Doctors discovered that his shoulder was completely torn, and they initially assumed his neck pain was related to the shoulder injury. Three months later, Doug lost function in his arms and had to be taken to the ER. It was then discovered that his neck had also been damaged in the accident, requiring surgery to restore movement. Since then, he has needed two additional back surgeries due to the injuries from the crash, with another surgery scheduled in just over a month.
One of the surgeries left his leg completely numb, making everyday tasks—walking, driving, climbing stairs—extremely painful and difficult. He lives with constant pain. Since his December surgery, he has been working from home on his computer as much as he can, despite the numbness and mobility issues. He has also been undergoing extensive physical therapy, neuro therapy, speech therapy, and hyperbaric treatments due to the severe concussion he suffered in the accident.
At the end of March, his employer placed him on FMLA, which provides no income. They claim his situation falls under workers’ compensation, but workers’ comp is refusing to pay, saying it is not a workers’ comp case. Short‑term disability won’t pay either, because they say it is workers’ comp. Doug is using the last of his PTO, which will only cover him for one week in May. After that, he will have no income at all.
His wife is expanding her in‑home daycare to try to keep the family afloat while they wait—possibly months—for workers’ comp, his employer, or the uninsured motorist claim to finally pay out. She has also been selling handmade items on the side to help cover bills.
Before the accident, Doug was active, involved with his job, family, friends, and church. He and his wife were always working on projects together, both inside and outside their home. Now, they are overwhelmed with medical bills, insurance changes, and uncertainty about whether Doug will ever be able to return to work due to the extent of his injuries.
They need help covering monthly expenses, medical bills, and insurance costs until his wife’s daycare is fully up and running or until the legal and insurance processes finally come through.
