Support Doug’s Lifesaving Liver Transplant
Doug went into liver transplant surgery on Tuesday at 12:45. He was diagnosed with sudden onset acute liver failure. His liver, kidneys and gallbladder have significant damage from an autoimmune disease caused by his body’s rejection to a condition called Alpha-gal syndrome. He had a tick bite a few years back that started everything. His body created multiple allergies, including even an allergy to red meat and his body started rejecting his own organs. The progression was quick and scary but we are absolutely over the moon thankful, grateful, happy and celebrating his organ donor right now.
Surgery was a success on Tuesday. They took out his old liver that was the size of 3 normal, healthy livers inside of his belly. They kept him sedated overnight to help his body heal. Today (Wednesday) at 2:00 he went back into surgery to remove extra fluids his body was retaining and to check for internal bleeding. If you all could do us a favor, keep send up those positive vibes, prayers, happy thoughts.
We know Doug is going to pull through and we want him to know how many people care about him. We are starting this go fund me to help with the medical bills that are already rolling in. His anti-rejection medicine will be upwards of $1,000 a month after insurance for the rest of his life. We are working diligently with the financial aid services of the hospital and all of the wonderful services we are trying to find. These services take time and we are humbling ourselves and asking for help in the interim.
Thank you all in advance for loving our Doug. If he’s anything, everyone knows his one of a kind.
We love you bub. Hang in there buddy.
