Support Douglas's Recovery After Traumatic Accident

Donation protected
As many of you already know, my brother, Douglas (Morgan, "Mo") was in a bad accident yesterday in Powhatan County (10.20.24). He is currently in the ICU, sedated, with a breathing tube and ventilator. His injuries include small scattered brain bleeds, a subdural hematoma, a fracture of his neck (c7) with particular concern currently for a bleed close to his brain stem. We don't currently know the extent of any neurological deficits he may have currently or down the road, or injuries to his spinal cord secondary to the fracture in his neck or potential swelling that may present complications, however his initial presentation on scene of the accident was concerning.
Douglas worked full time as a mechanic in Cumberland County but at this time I am not sure what the status of his health insurance is nor what all it may or may not cover if he has any. Many of you have reached out in support of him, myself and our family and we cannot express our gratitude enough for all the love you guys have for him and our family. That truly means the most to all of us right now and I hope and pray we will get to a point that Douglas himself will have the ability to be aware of all the overwhelming love and support you guys have already showered us with. Thank you all from the top and bottom of our hearts.
While we don't know how long his road to recovery will be, I feel the best support we can begin to put in place for him at this time is to help take the burden of medical bills off his and my family's shoulders. Please consider donating, even if it's only $5, every little bit counts. And thank you all again for all of your love and support for my brother.

10.21.24 Update** as of this evening he is still intubated but the process of slowly weaning him off of sedation has been ongoing throughout the day. He is currently moving all four extremities, having some trouble moving his legs (on command), but able to open his eyes on command and responds in that way to his name. He was able to nod his head "yes" after the nurse asked him to open his eyes wide during his last pupil check and is (thankfully) slowly becoming a bit more restless and aware. We are hoping to have his breathing tube removed tonight as well. It looks like he will remain in the ICU for about another five days before he is moved to a less acute unit. So far we're just trying to keep him company and allow him to rest. We are still keeping an eye on his brain bleeds but so far nothing appears to require surgery. Thank you to everyone that continues to reach out and for all of your absolutely generous donations. Every bit counts and is going to help cover his helicopter ride, week long ICU stay, step down stay and intensive therapy later down the road. Again, we cannot thank you all enough. Please continue to share to get the word out!

10.22.24 Update** Douglas was able to have his breathing tube removed last night and is doing great without it! He had a rough night and has had moments of being super fiesty throughout the last 15 hours or so, but is also extremely exhausted. Miraculously he was able to stand with assistance and take a few steps however he is extremely unstable on his feet and doesn't understand where his body is or any objects around him. While we are thankful he is able to stand and "walk" he remains a fall risk and isn't doing laps around the hospital just yet! His early morning CT looks good, some of his smallest bleeds have already healed but he still has bruising to his brain along with minor swelling and other small bleeds that are still ongoing. Overall, however, he is on the right path! He is able to speak and has been his spitfire self the times he has spoken! At this time he needs all the rest he can get as it is taking lots and lots of energy for him to do the smallest of tasks. Thank you all again for all of the love and support! We will continue to keep everyone updated and continue to pray for more healing on his behalf!
