Support Doug Birdsell’s Cancer Recovery

In mid-February, our family received news no one is ever prepared for. My dad, Doug Birdsell, was diagnosed with colon cancer.

This is the Birdsell family organizing this fundraiser for him.

Doug is 60 years old and has lived in the Conroe and Montgomery County community for over 25 years. More than anything, he is a devoted dad and proud “Papa” to his grandkids — a role he truly treasures. He loves spending time with his family, playing golf, watching baseball, and picking up his guitar whenever he gets the chance. Anyone who knows him knows his goofy personality and the joy he brings into a room, as well as how deeply his faith guides his life and the way he cares for others.

Over the years he has also worked in real estate and new home sales and spent time helping with youth baseball, but his greatest impact has always been on the people closest to him. He has always been someone others could depend on — encouraging, steady, and always willing to help however he could.

In mid-February he was diagnosed with sigmoid colon cancer. We are thankful doctors were able to identify it, and we are hopeful surgery will be the primary treatment needed for recovery. However, this process brings significant medical expenses and a period of time where he will not be able to work.

Even with insurance, the costs of pre-operative testing, surgery, hospital stay, medications, and recovery time quickly add up. During recovery he will also be unable to earn income, which adds additional stress during an already difficult time.

This fundraiser is being created so he can focus fully on healing rather than worrying about finances.

We are asking for support from friends, family, and the community that has been part of our lives for so many years. Any donation, share, or prayer means more to our family than we can properly express. We are hopeful for a successful surgery and look forward to the day he is back home, healthy, and spending time with the people he loves most.
