Kimberly is starting this fundraiser for her mom, Dorothy Stringer, after a devastating medical crisis changed both of their lives. On August 9 of this year, Dorothy contracted West Nile Virus from a mosquito bite. The infection caused encephalitis and nearly took Dorothy’s life. Since then, Dorothy has been left unable to walk and now uses a catheter, and her long-term recovery remains uncertain. Dorothy is currently doing physical therapy five days a week through her HMO, but Kimberly does not know how long that support will continue. Right now, Dorothy needs care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and Kimberly has stepped in as her full-time caregiver.

This fundraiser will help cover Dorothy’s daily care needs and basic living expenses while Kimberly continues providing the constant support Dorothy depends on. Kimberly has been relying on Paid Family Leave so she can stay home and care for her mom, but that support ends on October 1, creating an ongoing financial strain at a time when Dorothy still needs round-the-clock help.
