Greetings, I'm Nkechi Opara. I'm reaching out with urgency and hope, rallying alongside friends to support our incredible friend and sister, Doris Evioghene Nwogu, in her courageous fight against Breast Cancer!

Your contribution can make a significant difference in her journey towards recovery. Please join us in this vital mission of love and healing.

Doris’s condition has been clinically assessed to be Stage 3A cancer in the left breast, and is HER2 positive (for more information on breast cancer prognosis, types and treatment, please follow this link and this link.)

What this means and the implications for Doris (and the rest of us her friends and family)?

This means that the cancer is in her breast and in the nearby lymph nodes under her armpit. It is no longer considered an early stage of breast cancer.

The Recommended Treatment Plan, currently being executed at Lagoon Hospitals, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria and led by expert Oncologists and qualified doctors:

Step 1. Chemotherapy + hormone therapy before surgery to shrink the cancer down and make it possible to have breast conserving surgery. Six sessions to be done at 3-week intervals.

Step 2. Surgery to remove the cancerous area with a border of normal breast tissue.

Step 3. Radiotherapy to the rest of the breast. About 15 - 20 sessions over 6 weeks

Step 4. Continuous drug administration: xxxx over a prescribed period of 1 year, and Daily Hormone therapy drugs for 5/10 years

The Journey So Far

Doris has shown remarkable resilience and strength of will despite all the pain she’s been through and continues to endure.

She is currently undergoing chemotherapy, which is aimed at containing the cancer spread and to reduce the tumor to a point that de-risks the planned surgery. The Chemotherapy sessions started 2nd October 2023; one has been completed with five outstanding.

The next steps.

1. 5 Chemo sessions every 3 weeks

2. Reviews in between (after 3 cycles)

3. Surgery

4. Radiotherapy sessions.

5. Complete 3 more Chemotherapy cycles

6. Daily Hormone therapy drugs for 5/10 years

7. Brain scan

8. Periodic reviews

She’s currently on Herceptin & Perjeta, both very costly, and the only drugs that are effective in treating her particular breast cancer HER2+.

Breakdown of what is outstanding, based on current assessment:

Chemotherapy Session ~ $2400/session, Total cost for 6 Chemotherapy Sessions - $14,400

Cost of Surgery to remove the Lump & Tissues - $10,000

Cost of Radiotherapy Sessions ~ $5000 (She will need about 15 - 20 sessions over 6 weeks)

Cost of drug maintenance (PHESGO 600 - 600 10ml every 3 weeks for 1 year = 18 cycles) - $1200/cycle x 18 = $21,000

Various diagnoses and investigations ~$5,000

Total Treatment Cost - $55,000 (GBP45,000) approx
