Just recently our mom Doreen was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML). We are still trying to wrap our heads around it — she is a selfless person who always wants to do for others. This diagnosis feels scary and overwhelming, but in Doreen fashion, she has kept her spirits high and her positive attitude on full swing.
After an emergency visit from severe symptoms we discovered her white blood cell count was dangerously high at 250,000. She started chemotherapy immediately. She’s now receiving chemotherapy treatment from home and taking multiple medications including blood thinners to help regulate her platelets that were also at a dangerous 1 million.
Unfortunately, this battle comes at a cost—emotionally, physically, and financially.
Right now, our mom is unable to work. She’s fighting a blood cancer that requires constant monitoring and treatment. The medications, lab tests, and household bills are piling up quickly. As her children, we are doing everything we can to help care for her.
Through it all, our mom has shown unshakable strength. Even as her body weakens, her spirit hasn’t. She believes in the power of God through prayer and keeps smiling, keeps cracking jokes, and keeps reminding us to stay positive.
Thank you for all the love, support, and prayers. They mean the world to Doreen and to all of us standing beside her.
