Dora and I grew up together in Colombia, and she has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. She started out as my babysitter, but over the years, she became a lifelong friend and a true inspiration. Dora has faced more challenges than most people could imagine. Years ago, she survived a violent attack that left her disabled and reliant on a wheelchair. Despite this, she never let her circumstances define her. She went on to play basketball for the Colombian Paralympic national team and, just this past April, graduated with a technical degree in business administration.


Sadly, that same month, Dora was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. The diagnosis has turned her world upside down. She is currently unable to compete in sports or search for a new job in her field, as her treatment schedule is demanding and exhausting. Living alone, Dora now faces mounting expenses for rent, food, and especially medical care. Public transportation is difficult for her, and I hope to help her afford more comfortable and reliable ways to get to her treatments.


Dora is truly one of the kindest and warmest people I know. She faces every challenge with a smile and reminds me every day to be grateful for the opportunity to live my life. My greatest wish is for her to focus on her recovery so she can continue spreading joy in the world, just as she always has.
