Help Save Doobie’s Life – Urgent Surgery Needed

Donation protected
Hi everyone, I’m reaching out with urgency and vulnerability for the sweetest little soul who has been through so much. Doobie our 2.5-year-old dachshund mix and most loving dog you could ever meet. We adopted him just over a year ago, and he’s brought so much joy into our lives.

What Happened
Back in March Doobie had to have emergency surgery to remove rare urate bladder stones that completely blocked his ability to urinate. He was in severe pain and wouldn’t have survived without it. That surgery saved his life but was just the beginning of a long and difficult journey. Just last month, Doobie was prepped for a second surgery to remove more bladder stones, remove his large umbilical hernia and get a liver biopsy to see what caused this. But then the surgery had to be postponed because his blood clotting tests showed he was at high risk of bleeding. The vet warned us that surgery now would require a risky blood transfusion, adding thousands more to the cost and danger. So, we’ve been trying to stabilize him with medication while waiting for a clear diagnosis.
Since then, Doobie has faced ongoing health battles repeated stones, clotting problems, worsening liver function, and a growing umbilical hernia. With his emergency surgery, countless specialty vet visits, tests, diagnostics, and medications we’ve already accumulated over $10,000 in debt trying to give him the best chance.

The Diagnosis
After months of uncertainty and medication, we finally got answers. A CT portogram confirmed that Doobie has a rare congenital condition called a splenoazygos portosystemic liver shunt. This means that since birth, his blood has been bypassing his liver, preventing toxins from being properly filtered out which has caused all his symptoms and the dangerous stone formation.

What He Needs Now
The only way to save him now is through specialized, complex surgery to correct the shunt, remove all his bladder stones again and his hernia. Because of his clotting issues, Doobie will most likely need a plasma transfusion during surgery and several days of hospital monitoring afterward to keep him safe. This adds significant cost and risk but is absolutely necessary. The total estimated cost for surgery, transfusion, hospital stay, and follow-up care is between $6,000 and $10,00 depending on complications and on top of what we’ve already spent. This can be a life changing surgery for him and give him a chance at a healthy happy life and our vet has let us know if we wait too long all of this can get a lot worse for him.

We love Doobie more than anything and want to give him a chance at a healthy, long life, but we can’t do it alone.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, support, and for keeping Doobie in your thoughts. He’s a fighter, and we believe he can get through this. With love and gratitude, Mazzy, Hunter, and Doobie.
