Support Don's Fight Against Stage 4 Cancer
Donation protected
Hello everyone,
Many of you know me as Don’s daughter — a title I’ve always carried with pride. It’s meant a lot to be known that way, because if you know my dad, you know how cool he is. Whether you met him while working on a Subaru and he lent you his knowledge, or you had a ride so cool he couldn’t help but compliment it, he made an impact. His love for cars was only matched by the support and energy he felt from all of you, especially trackside, which helped fuel his dream of racing on professional tracks across the country.
Over the past year, some of you may have noticed my dad’s health starting to decline. Still, he never let that stop him from chasing his goals. One of his biggest dreams was to move to Japan and start his own business building custom engine wire harnesses for motorsports. He spent two years preparing, even enrolling in Japanese language classes at Mesa Community College. He applied and was accepted to study at a university in Tokyo — all that was left was visa approval.
Unfortunately, during this time, his health began to take a sharper downturn. It started with what seemed like fatigue and headaches, then worsened about a week before his final hurrah at Super Lap Battle. He couldn’t keep food down and felt constant nausea. Thinking it might be stomach ulcers, I took him to the ER in Tempe. We were sent home without answers, but as things got worse — especially with his Type 1 diabetes and not being able to eat — I brought him back.
Thankfully, a different doctor immediately ordered a CT scan. That’s when everything changed.
They found a large mass in his colon and spots all over his liver. He was transferred straight to Chandler Regional, where the team took incredible care of him. After they took the biopsies , we got the diagnosis: stage 4 cancer that had spread to his liver.
It was a devastating shock. My dad has never smoked, never drank, and maintained a healthy diet because of his diabetes. Still, here we are — and now, the focus is on fighting. The next step is Chemo, and we’re determined to face it head-on.
We’re asking for support to help keep Don as comfortable as possible and to ease some of the financial stress so he can focus on healing. Anything helps.
Thank you all so much for the love you've shown him over the years — and thank you for standing with us now.
