My name is Cynthia Hockman and my boyfriend, Donnie Caulder Jr., had a liver transplant on 9/13/2025. We were just released from Duke University Medical Center yesterday. We spent exactly a month there. I have had to stay out of work to take care of him and be there for him in the hospital. Unfortunately, the bills have not stopped, and we are struggling to stay afloat. It’s so hard to ask for help, but I have no choice at the moment. It looks like I will be out of work for probably 2 more months while we drive 96 miles multiple times a week for appointments and labs.

Donnie is a father of 5 children; they are all adults now. He has grandchildren from them. My children are grown, and their father died, so Donnie is the only grandfather my grandchildren have ever known. They love him so much. They missed him so much while he was in the hospital. They constantly wanted to call and talk to him. He worked in construction, so he has not been able to work since his liver started failing. He has a second chance at life with this new liver. We just need a little help to make it through this time.
