Support Donna Stacy's Fight Against Colon Cancer
Donation protected
Hello! My name is Kyndall Givens and I am the oldest daughter of Donna Stacy and am creating this GoFundMe in support of my mother. Donna has been an amazing mother to me and my 4 siblings ranging in age from 25-14. Over the course of our lives my mother has always selflessly given all she could to make sure we had food, a home, extra curricular activities and love, all while being a single mom for many years. She continues to financially support me and my sister as we further our education in undergraduate and graduate programs in College. Donna is the strongest, most caring, selfless, and resilient woman I know and unfortunately has received some devastating news.
On Friday, August 9th, my mom received a call no one can prepare you for. Following a colonoscopy, she was informed that she has Colon Cancer. This past week has been filled with back-to-back doctor’s appointments, roller coasters of emotions, and most of all fear for what the next few months holds. She has been informed of the risks of infection, the need for a colostomy bag either temporarily or permanently, drainage tubes, chemo and its side effects, the fear of protecting her remaining kidney function is also a very real concern. Her life has been thrust into turmoil with all the unknowns and the upcoming hardships she will face as she fights to recover.
Back in November of 2022 my mother selflessly donated a kidney to my stepfather Joe when she realized she was match. She never faltered as she made the decision to give her husband a new lease on life allowing him to avoid dialysis. The surgery she underwent to donate a kidney used a lot of her sick time she had saved. Joe also just recently underwent shift changes at Ford after the strike causing him to use his paid leave for vacations taken over the summer, never anticipating this diagnosis since my mother was in perfect health to donate a kidney less than two years ago. As a result when he takes off work to take care of her during surgery and chemo he will go unpaid.
Three years ago my mom opened up her home to a foreign exchange student from Liberia, Africa, providing Aaron with opportunities and experiences he never would have had. She opened her heart and home during the COVID pandemic to provide experiences to a child she had never met. She not only opened her home but also her heart. She made sure he returned to Africa with a chromebook for school, clothes, shoes, a camera, money and so much more.
My mother has been a teacher for 26 years and has selflessly sacrificed an enormous amount of time, money, resources, and love to support her students and give them any and everything they could possibly need to receive an outstanding education, often time treating her students as if they were her own children. She always tells the families of her students, "Once a student of mine a child of mine for life." My mother is going from preparing her classroom for her 6th grade students at Monac Elementary School, to now preparing for even more doctor’s appointments, surgery, chemotherapy and all the side effects and recovery that comes with this diagnosis, not only physically but mentally and emotionally.
In preparation for how we are all going to navigate this terrifying journey, I am asking for any financial assistance you are able to provide that will help my mom and her husband Joe have one less thing to worry about during this time. Without the burden of worrying how they will manage financially would provide my mom and our family peace of mind. Allowing her to heal physically and emotionally as she navigates her new normal during the roller coaster CANCER unleashes. Any donations will be used to help my parents live comfortably and continue to be able to afford the basics of life and pay their bills since Joe is only allotted a small number of sick days and my mom has limited days left due to her recent kidney donation. If you are unable to offer financial support, please reach out to our family if you are able to provide meals, pick up groceries, help dog sit, clean the house, sit with my mom for a few hours when Joe returns to work, help transport her to future appointments, or simply pray. Any and all support is greatly appreciated.
I want to say thank you in advance and ask that my mother be kept in all of your prayers. She is so strong and I know she can and will beat this!
