Support Donna (Langan) Smith's Cancer Battle

Donation protected
Hello everyone! This post is with a heavy heart and some humility as I never imagined a day when this would be something I'd have to resort to, but my mom, Donna (Langan) Smith, has been diagnosed with cancer. She was fortunate to learn this week that it hasn't metastasized, but nonetheless, she has a long road ahead of her.

With that being said, she currently lives in an old farmhouse which is not at all ADA ready. She needs a walk-in shower, a deck with ramp from the driveway to the front door along with doorways widened in order to get her in and out in a wheelchair for the months that she has to undergo chemo and radiation and who knows how much longer after that.

The deck would be the largest of the expenses as it will need to be about 20” above ground and about 20’ from the drive to the door, plus wide enough to accommodate. The shower install would require removal of the step-in tub and hopefully installation of a corner walk-in shower since the bathroom is small and she will need room to maneuver safely and for someone to be in there with her for assistance.

While this is a very humbling request, any donations would be greatly appreciated. Or if you know of any resources for material donations in the San Benito, TX area.

Mom still works almost daily for the same accounting office she's been at since I was a little girl there in San Benito. She will demand to go back to work on the days that she feels well enough, but I think this treatment might be the first thing in her 77 years that has ever slowed her down.

She is a fighter and the strongest woman I know, but she's hit a moment of difficulty that will be starting up here in a couple of weeks and lasting for 3-4 months.

I will be moving back home with her so that I can help her and ensure my brother Harlan has a chance to have some help as well. I'll be flying/driving back and forth to Kansas City for the rest of the year, which is totally fine as my KC area family and friends can hold things together while I am gone.

Thanks in advance for any donations or suggestions you may have. We have already been blessed to receive help from my friend Rene with the labor, so our main need is for materials as we will handle the medical costs and my travel expenses without worry.

Apologies for not reaching out to tell many personally. It’s been quite chaotic with the long distant coordination of her appointments and truthfully really difficult to speak about.
