My momma, Donna, was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer (MBC) in May 2019. MBC is Stage IV breast cancer. Mom’s cancer has spread to her spine, hip, femur, liver, and possibly her skull.
If you’ve had the pleasure of meeting Donna Carnes, you know how selfless and stubborn this woman is. She doesn’t ask for help. She takes everyone’s burdens on her own shoulders and strides on.
But, things have gotten tight. Her and my dad are on a fixed income and have a mortgage, medical bills, and other bills to cover. Mom’s anxiety over finances often overshadows her worry or consideration for her own health.
That’s especially true right now. Mom was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday, September 18. She’s been disoriented, weak, dehydrated, and unable to eat much. We originally attributed her symptoms to her current chemo regimen, but it’s looking like she may have a staph infection, and so her medical team is plying her with antibiotics.
We were never sure (still aren’t sure) how long we would have with Mom after her diagnosis, and we thank our lucky stars she is still here with us more than five years later.
If you’re able to spare even a couple dollars to help my parents and to ease my mom’s mental burden while she recovers, I would really appreciate it.
Thank you.
