Three months ago, Dong Hyun thought he had the flu. This month we found out he actually had Lymphoma, which was causing a 15 cm mass to grow over his lung and restrict his breathing.
He was in the Emergency Room for three days and admitted to the hospital for monitoring and his first cycle of chemo. He stayed for three weeks.
As a dedicated line cook, Dong Hyun has worked hard to support our family but now is unable to return to work while he undergoes treatment. He has taken a three-month medical leave from his job and solely relies on the income from his wife, who is also a line cook.
His insurance is also connected to his job and as a green card holder, he is not eligible for Medicare or other government-backed programs. The financial strain of medical bills and everyday living expenses is more than we can manage alone. Because of this he is at risk to lose his insurance coverage if he does not return to work after the medical leave.
Dong Hyun is a sweet and caring man. He came to America with the dream to cook and one day have his own restaurant. The suddenness of the diagnosis has left us feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about our future. During this hardship, we ask our community to help and support his recovery and treatment.
Donations will go towards covering medical expenses, living costs, and ensuring Dong Hyun doesn't have to return to work while actively undergoing chemo treatments. Donations will also allow him to continue to have insurance coverage and get the lifesaving treatment he needs.
Thank you for your consideration and support during this difficult time. Any support, big or small, means so much to us.
