My name is Jeanne Lewis. I married my soulmate almost 11 years ago (but have been together for 22 years). My husband, Donald C. Bloom, has MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and is in the final stage of this horrible disease. He has had MS for approximately 40+ years. Just recently, he started having horrific pain in his legs (so bad that he was transported to a hospital twice). After a series of steroids, the pain lessened. He was then taken by ambulance to a rehab/nursing home. There, they wanted to get his legs working again, but to no avail. His leg joints started locking in place, and he lost all ability to walk or even get out of bed. After weeks of physical therapy, they decided that he needs to be in a nursing home. He has been at the nursing home since the first week of November. He now cannot feed himself, brush his hair or his teeth, go to a toilet or shower, cannot hold me or our children or his grandchildren. This disease has taken a toll on the whole family.
Before November, we were taking little trips, drove to Texas, drove to Florida with the kids in a camper. We took money out of our house to have it fixed up (I have been in the house for 42 years), including new windows, had to buy another car since our old car died, and paid all of our bills on time. We have an excellent credit score. But then in November, everything came to a screeching halt. What I’m trying to say is that I cannot pay all of his doctor, nursing home, and other medical necessities that he needs. I don’t like asking for help, but I’m at my wits' end. I don’t know what else to do. Thank you for all that you can do.
