My Dad, Donald Hugonin, was diagnosed with Splenic Marginal Zone Lymphoma, leading to the removal of his spleen in November of 2023. Shortly after, he faced another serious hurdle with a diagnosis of Reactive Hypoglycemia, which resulted in dangerously low blood sugar levels that he struggled to manage.
After thorough assessments in 2025 in July 2025, Houston Methodist, doctors discovered a rare tumor in the head of his pancreas. He immediately underwent a Whipple procedure (10 hour surgery) to remove the tumor. While the surgery was necessary, it has come with significant complications, and 3 additional returns to surgery. Since then, he has been dealing with severe side effects, including uncontrollable nausea and vomiting, fluid buildup in his lungs, and persistent pain.
My dad has been hospitalized for over a month. After his discharge, he will require ongoing care in Houston and Lafayette for 6 weeks to manage drain tubes and other health issues connected to the surgery. Unfortunately, he will be on medical leave from work until October as he focuses on his recovery.
We have accumulated roughly $35,000 in medical bills and anticipate an additional $15,000 for hotel costs, home modifications, and nursing care over the coming weeks.
Any contribution, no matter how small, would mean the world to our family. Also, we ask for continued prayers for his recovery. His spirit is strong and he is determined to return to being healthy after four years of being seriously ill. Thank you for taking the time to read his story and for any assistance you can provide. Donny has done so much to help others throughout his life, please help us help him!!!
