Our dear friends Don & Stephanie Root are facing an incredibly difficult journey. Stephanie (McCall) Root has been diagnosed with a meningioma brain tumor, located in a very sensitive and dangerous area of her brain just behind and above her left ear.

This tumor is pressing against her brain on the left side, directly affecting her balance and cognitive abilities. What makes this even more complex is its position in the sigmoid sinus vein a major vein in the brain. At this point, it’s unclear whether the tumor has grown into the vein or if the vein has grown around it. This area is also surrounded by a cluster of veins and nerves, which makes surgical removal especially risky and delicate.

Don and Stephanie had to travel four hours to consult with a highly specialized neurosurgeon who can perform this type of surgery—a craniotomy, which involves opening the skull to access and remove the tumor.

As you can imagine, this situation is creating a massive financial burden on top of the emotional stress. Don and Stephanie are both self-employed, which means no paid time off—every day away from work means lost income, all while expenses like travel, lodging, medical bills, and long-term recovery care pile up.

And here’s the thing: Don and Stephanie have always been there for others. For years, they’ve quietly and selflessly helped fellow contractors, offered guidance, lent a hand, and poured their hearts into making the PWMCA annual event a success to help other contractors. Their impact on our community is deep and lasting. Now it’s our turn to be there for them.
