As the Executive director of Space Coast Volunteers in Medicine, I have had the privilege of working closely with Don Platt, a remarkable volunteer and nontraditional premedical student who exemplifies the very heart of compassionate healthcare.
Don Platt is not only a dedicated volunteer who is also working full-time but is also a cancer survivor who brings a deep personal understanding of the patient experience to everything he does. Currently working as an engineer studying the physiological effects of space on the human body, he is now transitioning into becoming an MD, by a profound desire to serve, heal, and offer hope to those who are suffering.
Don has recently been accepted to medical school in Orlando, Florida, and will begin this August 2025. This marks the culmination of years of tireless work, personal sacrifice, and deep commitment to his calling. However, due to unforeseen changes in his financial plan, he now faces significant challenges in securing the resources necessary to make this transition.
I have seen firsthand the empathy, resilience, and dedication Don brings to our clinic. His ability to connect with patients, especially those in underserved communities, is exceptional. He is not simply pursuing a degree—he is answering a calling. I refuse to see this flame go because faith is always bigger than fear.
Thank you for any financial gift and please continue to support Don Platt with your prayers.
