Our hearts are heavy as we share that our beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and community supporter, Domenic “Dom” Serratore, has been rediagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) after a very short remission. AML is a fast-moving and aggressive cancer of the blood and bone marrow that prevents the body from producing healthy blood cells and requires immediate, intensive treatment to survive. Because Dom’s remission was brief, his medical team has determined that he now faces a long, complex, and grueling medical road ahead. His treatment plan includes multiple dental extractions to eliminate infection risk, followed by high-dose chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, a life-saving but physically and emotionally demanding procedure. This process will require a lengthy hospitalization, during which Dom’s immune system will be completely wiped out, and then a minimum of 100 days of strict isolation and constant medical monitoring afterward as his body works to accept the donor marrow and rebuild his immune system. This is not an easy road, but it is his path to life.
During this critical time, Dom will be unable to work and separated from the people and routines that bring him joy—especially his Messina Pizza family, his coworkers, and the friends who mean everything to him. The medical bills, household expenses, and everyday financial commitments will continue to come due while Dom’s only job is to fight for his life. We are asking our community to step in and help carry this weight. Dom is generous to a fault—he would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need without hesitation. He is truly the best son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, and now it is our turn to give back to him. His family will protect him fiercely throughout this battle, but we cannot do this alone.
