This is Domino, my brave, gentle, one-in-a-million 13 yr old senior boy. His story didn’t start easy. As just a tiny puppy, barely 8 to 10 weeks old, Domino was found wandering the streets of Tijuana, scared, alone, and malnourished.
I adopted Domino hoping to give him the life he never had. But what I didn’t know was just how many lives he would go on to change. Domino became more than a pet. He became a rescuer in his own right.
In our home, we rehabilitate dogs who have been abused, neglected, and discarded—the forgotten ones. And Domino, our sweet boy, became their guide. He would lie next to them when they were too afraid to move. He’d gently show them how to play again. How to trust again. How to be a dog again. He gave them what no human could: the comfort of another soul who knew what it felt like to be broken… and to survive. Domino is more than our dog. He’s our partner. Our heart. And now he needs saving.
Last month, my sweet boy started acting tired. He wasn’t his usual self. I took him to his vet, thinking maybe it was something small. But the news shattered me. An ultrasound showed a mass on his spleen—it had ruptured and was leaking into his abdomen. He was rushed to an emergency hospital almost an hour away. By the time he got there, he was so weak he couldn’t survive surgery without a blood transfusion.
I held my breath as he received the transfusion, and it worked. My boy fought hard and made it through surgery. They removed the mass and his spleen, and I brought him home, grateful beyond words.
Then came the second blow: the mass was Hemangiosarcoma, a highly aggressive cancer of the blood vessels. Without treatment, we only have 3 short months left with him. With treatment, we could have up to 6 months, just a little more time with our boy. Time he’s earned. Time we’re begging for.
Domino needs 6 rounds of chemotherapy, and each round costs around $2,000. That’s $12,000 in total.
We’ve already spent over $15,000 and maxed out every credit card to get him through surgery and into recovery. I’m doing everything I can, but I can't do this next part alone. So I’m here, heart in hand, asking for your help. Please, if Domino’s story has touched you, if you’ve ever been loved by a dog who changed your life, help us give Domino a fighting chance. Every single donation goes directly toward his chemotherapy and continuing care.
We’re not asking for a miracle. Just a little more time.
More time for Domino to lay in the sun, to feel the wind on his face, to help just one more broken soul find their way.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for standing with our hero.
He’s not just a dog. He’s a lifeline. And right now, he needs one too.
With love and gratitude,
Domino’s Mom
