I'm Dominique. I live in New Orleans and work as a docent at a historic home in the Tremé. Last year, I lost my job and fell into bad health that was addressed with a surgery I received in September, where large fibroids were removed from my uterus. These challenges have set me back despite recently being hired on as a guardian at a private museum dedicated to the history of free people of color in New Orleans. I also work on a freelance basis as a substitute teacher and production assistant.
Last week I received a letter from the landlord to pay the balance for the rent plus a late fee by January 13th, $3,937.90 + $150, totaling $4,087.90.
Within 5 days of receiving this notice I have been able to raise $1500 of this amount with personal income and the support of friends.
Please help me to keep the stability that I have found here by giving what you can. The funds will be used to either pay a large sum to the landlord pending me retaining legal representation from the SLLS and a possible mediation or will help me cover costs to transition safe housing. I will be keeping all donors updated with weekly emails.
Thank you so much for being here. Even if you’re not able to give, I am grateful for kind and caring words from those who can understand the stress of having your stability threatened.
much peace and light to you✨
