I Am Hope — Support Victims of Domestic Violence

Young mothers and children need our support, but in order to help them, we need your help. Your donations, of any size, will go a long way.
We started I Am Hope eight months ago to support victims of domestic violence in Guatemala. We support young women who became moms when they were still children themselves. Many don’t have an education, income or the support of their families.
Our programs help young moms and their children to heal their trauma. We provide essential services to survivors: psychological and medical care, childcare and schooling, food, skill training, and emergency legal services. Without these supports, the cycle of violence and poverty threatens to trap them for life.
Since April 2021, we have provided over 4,400 therapy sessions to young mothers and children and provided over 2,100 meals. We pay the medical bills when acts of unspeakable violence put women and children in the hospital. Earlier this year, we covered the medical costs for a 5-year-old boy whose father broke his leg in three places and who may still need costly surgery to walk again. We pay the legal bills when mothers need restraining orders from their abusive husbands, or when they file for custody of their children.
Due to a lack of financial resources, we are too often faced with untenable choices. Recently, we were forced to choose between providing 50 families with a month’s worth of food or saving the life of a young pregnant woman who needed surgery in a specialized hospital.
$5 will provide meals for one child for one day
$50 will provide cooking supplies (flour, rice, oil etc.) for a family for one month
$150 will provide meals for one child for one month
$300 will provide one year of weekly therapy sessions for a mother or a child
$520 will provide a young pregnant women with access to a safe birth in a hospital
$1,000 will cover the cost of lawyer needed to file a restraining order in Guatemala
$1,400 will cover the medical costs for minors with high-risk pregnancies
