Hello! My name is Dizzy. My pronouns are they/them and I am autistic. I love to dance and I am very expressive! I also enjoy crochet, making weird sounds, and recently I've been getting into mime. I also practice Buddhism and mindfulness in the Plum Village tradition at Greatwoods Zen.
As an autistic adult, I struggle to stay employed without burning out. I worked at QuikTrip for two and a half years—close to home and decent pay, but constant overstimulation and abrupt task-switching left me in survival mode. I eventually shut down during a summer rush, went on FMLA, and never returned. That was June 2023. Leaving was an act of self-compassion, but I’ve been struggling with burnout ever since.
Thankfully, I found mindfulness and meditation not long after—and I can honestly say they saved my life. They gave me a glimpse of life beyond suffering, and a community to stand with… or rather, sit with. ba dum tss
Over time, that community blossomed into new forms: yoga, ecstatic dance, and deeper connection. I’m endlessly grateful for the way these practices and people have held me—through vulnerability, growth, and the slow return to myself.
I’ve been doing my best to get back on my feet, but progress has been slow. Even with flexible side jobs, I burn out quickly and retreat, barely earning enough to cover food and bills. Lately, just getting to work feels overwhelming, so I've decided to prioritize my well-being. While it has helped, it’s come at the cost of financial stability. My savings are gone, and I’ve been relying on credit—a slippery slope I’m wary of.
Life as an autistic adult presents unique challenges, and I’m trying my best to build a sustainable, fulfilling life. Right now, I’m struggling to cover basic necessities while also pursuing my dreams. I want to create a life where I’m not just surviving, but thriving. Your support can make a huge difference in helping me get on my feet and out of debt.
But also the support doesn't have to come financially, but also could be in the form of:
Helping me make and stay more accountable with my goals.
Acting as a body double when I'm struggling to do a task, even virtually could do! Forms and setting up appointments isn't my strong suit.
Sharing this with others!
Helping me get to and from places, public transportation can oftentimes be a nightmare.
Cheering me on! I could always use more cheerleaders!
Helping me with some essentials.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story and witness my journey. Asking for help isn’t easy, but I’ve learned that community care can be a powerful thing. Whether you’re able to donate, share this campaign, or support in other ways—please know that your kindness truly means the world to me.
Every contribution, big or small, brings me closer to a life that feels sustainable, safe, and full of possibility. It’s not just about surviving—it's about creating space to heal, grow, and share what I have to offer with the world.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being part of my journey.
With gratitude,
Dizzy
