Support Ditidaht carver Linda Williams after RCMP assault
Donation protected
I am a friend of Linda Williams and am creating this fundraiser in hopes of collecting enough funds to allow Linda to pay her rent and find some rest and healing.
On the night of February 9th 2025 Ditidaht carver Linda Williams was assaulted by the North Cowichan RCMP during a wrongful stop on the side of the highway near Duncan BC. She has been dealing with the repercussions ever since. She suffered injuries that left her unable to work for weeks and has been experiencing daily incapacitation due to trauma from the assault.
Linda Williams is a seventh generation carver and a community advocate. As the sister of John T Williams who was killed by Seattle police in 2010 she is no stranger to the violence and racism of the state. She is also the mother of Nellie Williams who was murdered in 2019 in the midst of experiencing homelessness and displacement. Linda deserves rest, healing and justice. She needs reparations especially from settlers who are complicit in the violence she has experienced throughout her lifetime.
Furthermore, we will need to bring the state actors who attacked Linda in February to justice. The main perpetrator was RCMP constable Erin Stevenson (Badge #58157). Stevenson was in a fury about an investigation and targeted Linda with aggression and violence. Following the assault, when they found Linda to not be connected to the investigation, the constables involved left her on the side of the dark highway shaken and traumatized and on her own to get to safety. The heavy presence of RCMP in the streets of Duncan are continually triggering for Linda and will be further as they move into a local high school for training in Linda’s neighborhood. We need to stand with Linda in her work to pursue justice and true safety in the community.
These are Linda's most recent carvings. She is hoping to find buyers in order to cover her bills. You can contact her at [email redacted] about carvings.
