Discovery Wildlife Park is located in Central Alberta and provides a forever home for wildlife in need. For over 30 years we have been taking in orphans, rescues, and abandoned or neglected animals. We provide daily educational animal presentations for local and travelling customers. We are privately owned and operated and rely on public to help support the animals in our care. All donations received will go directly to caring for and supporting our orphaned and rescued animal family. We take in animals at any time of the year, but typically the spring is the most active time for orphans and rescues. If they can’t find a forever home with us, unfortunately they do not typically find a second chance at life.
Our Animal Family
We support over 25 different species from lions, tigers, and bears, to raccoons, wolves, deer and elk. Just the large cats alone eat over 25lb of meat a day. All 9 bears are up and eating 150 lbs of food a day and we have many species of herbivores requiring hay, pellets and various supplement blocks. Your donation would not only help support feeding the animals but also help with additional care such as enrichment items, veterinary care, and general maintenance of enclosures. Last year, our male lion, Griffin, needed an emergency surgery to remove a broken tooth. Thankfully with our animal painting sales and other daily sales, we received a lot of support to decrease the $4500 vet bill. We could not thank everyone enough for caring about the animals as much as we do!
Your Support Means The World to Us
We understand that with the covid pandemic these times are stressful for everyone and that we all face some very uncertain times ahead. For the last 29 years we have managed to always raise enough funds to provide for the animals. We would not have been able to do that without your support with daily admissions, yearly memberships, and gift shop / concession purchases. We also provide the opportunity for Animal Adoption programs and Animal enclosure sponsorships. More information can be found at discoverywildlifepark.com for those donation programs.
We are only open from May 1st - Thanksgiving weekend, but we care for the animals year round. We decrease our staff numbers in the winter to only our essential care staff as we are not open to public at this time. The care the animals receive is not limited however, and the funds required to continue their high levels of care over 7 months have to be accumulated in our 5 open months.
We Thank You for Your Support
Without you, we are concerned for the futureof Discovery Wildlife Park and our animal family. We have provided safe homes for thousands of animals and would love to continue providing those homes for thousands in the future. If you feel like you can spare any amount of donation it would mean everything to animals who don’t understand what is happening in the world and if you are able to ever come visit, we would love to be able to share their connection with you. They will steal your heartsand make you feel like you are a part of their family. They appreciate you!
