Support Disabled Artists Jaymie and Jay's Journey
Donation protected
My name is Jaymie, my hubby's name is Jay. We are a couple of neurospicy disabled artists living in a broke-down van in a friend's driveway. We are both late diagnosed AuDHD with cPTSD, GAD, hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, autoimmune diseases, with the corresponding gut issues and chronic fatigue. I also have type 2 diabetes, neuropathy, POTS, a possible blood flow issue, and hyperemetic panic disorder. Jay had a heart attack two years ago, resulting in a heart catheterization and two stents. He also has a pinched disc, spinal stenosis, arthritis, and bone spurs.
A few days ago, we were asked to get back on the road by the end of the month, but with our disabilities and absolute lack of income, this is no easy task. They gifted us Pearl, a 1997 Chevy Express 1500, but she needs some work before we can head out. So, we are reaching out to friends and kind strangers for some help to get Pearl road ready, and to support ourselves as we work on dealing with our medical issues and applying for disability.
Pearl's needs:
- a full set of new tires
- brakes, we are hoping just pads
- either fix the alarm system, or disconnect it entirely
- title transfer/registration/taxes/license plate
- six months of "high-risk" insurance (due to us currently NOT having insurance)
Our needs:
- Reflectix for insulation-floor, walls, ceiling, doors
- veneer for walls
- flooring
- plywood-floor base, wall to separate the cab
- a kitchen:
• used dressers or small cabinets
• sink
• foot pump, faucet, and 7-gallon jugs for "running" water
- some wood to finish out the shelving in the rear cabinets and to make doors
- paint
- heater: after much deliberation, we have decided to go with a small wood burner. We don't have electric, and diesel would cost around $5/day, but we can pick up pinecones and sticks anywhere we go
- speaking of going: we also need a toilet
Needs that are not immediate:
- solar panels
- Jackery
- low profile rooftop storage
- back-up camera
Pearl was well cared for by her previous owner, who ordered her specially in 1996. They spent nearly 30 years together, traversed 69,000 miles, and spent I don't know how many nights camping under the stars. He added his own special touches with beautiful woodwork and trim throughout, and she provided him reliable transportation and shelter. He is gone now, but she has been passed on to us and we are looking forward to seeing many more nights under the stars with her.
We are setting our fundraising goal at $5,000 for what we will need to drive and live in Pearl. This doesn't include the non-immediate needs.
Thank you so much for your support. Any amount will help and is greatly appreciated. Pearl thanks you, too.
First Update: Thank you to everyone who has donated or shared this fundraiser with others. We are exhausted but hopeful that we can meet out goals. We've

included a photo of the materials we have so far minus the insulation hiding behind the wood. We will try to post more photos as we go.
