Hi, our names are Omar Pena and Christian Rodriguez, and we are creating this GoFundMe with a broken heart on behalf of our families who have suffered unimaginable loss. On the morning of Saturday, December 20th, our siblings Diego Peña Jr. Zarate and Lizbeth Rodriguez Contreras were leaving a holiday party with their two young children, Camila Alessandra Pena Rodriguez and Diego Gael Pena Rodriguez, when a wrong-way driver stuck their vehicle head-on and caused the sudden and devastating loss of lives of both parents Diego and Lizbeth, their young daughter, Camila, and leaving behind the sole-survivor, Dieguito a sweet and innocent 3-year-old boy who is currently hospitalized with a long road to recovery.

Lizbeth and Diego’s world revolved around their children as was evident since their young family was inseparable. Diego recalls the moment his life changed when he found out he was going to be a father. He took naturally to being a very involved dad and took great pride in working overtime along with Lizbeth to provide for their young family. One of their proudest moments was when they were able to buy their first car and home. Lizbeth absolutely loved being a mother to her mini-me, Camila, and to Dieguito. She was also a beloved 4th grade teacher at Metcalf Elementary School. A big perk was that Camila was also a pre-k student at the same school and they got to spend everyday together which Camila absolutely loved. Camila had a contagious smile that would make it impossible for you to have a bad day when you were with her. She loved being able to go to/from school everyday with her mom and spend time with in her classroom after school. Camila also loved being a big sister. Her best friend was Dieguito. Diego was inseparable from her and his mom. He also loved imitating his dad and would shadow him around the house doing “handy” work together and using his toy lawnmower to help his dad.

In an instant, Dieguito lost the people who loved him, protected him, and were his entire world. He is currently receiving medical care, will undergo surgeries and continues to fight through recovery. While he is surrounded by family who love him deeply, the emotional and financial weight of this loss is overwhelming for all of the family. No family should ever have to plan funerals for three loved ones while also worrying about the medical care and future of a surviving child.

This GoFundMe has been created to help support Dieguito and our grieving family by covering:

Hospital and ongoing medical expenses and surgeries for Dieguito;

Funeral, burial, and memorial services for his father, mother, and sister (some of which are being covered by people who love this family);

Immediate living expenses as family members step in to care for Dieguito;

Ongoing support to help provide stability, security, and a future for this young boy whose life has been forever changed.

Every donation will go directly toward caring for Dieguito and honoring the memory of Diego, Lizbeth, and beloved Camila.

En la mañana del sábado 20 de diciembre, nuestros hermanos Diego Peña Jr. Zarate y Lizbeth Rodríguez Contreras salían de una fiesta navideña junto a sus dos pequeños hijos, Camila Alessandra Peña Rodríguez y Diego Gael Peña Rodríguez, cuando un conductor que circulaba en sentido contrario impactó su vehículo de frente. Este trágico accidente provocó la repentina y devastadora pérdida de ambos padres, Diego y Lizbeth, así como de su pequeña hija Camila, dejando como único sobreviviente a Dieguito, un dulce e inocente niño de 3 años que actualmente se encuentra hospitalizado y enfrenta un largo camino de recuperación.

El mundo de Diego y Lizbeth giraba completamente en torno a sus hijos, algo evidente para todos, ya que su joven familia era inseparable. Diego recordaba con emoción el momento en que su vida cambió al enterarse de que sería padre. De manera natural, asumió su rol como un papá muy presente y comprometido, y sentía un gran orgullo en salir adelante junto a Lizbeth. Ambos trabajaban horas extra para proveer a su familia, y uno de sus momentos de mayor orgullo fue cuando lograron comprar su primer automóvil y su primer hogar.

Lizbeth amaba profundamente ser mamá de su “mini yo”, Camila, y de su pequeño Dieguito. Además, era una querida maestra de cuarto grado en la escuela primaria Metcalf. Uno de los mayores regalos para ella era que Camila también fuera estudiante de preescolar en la misma escuela, lo que les permitía pasar todos los días juntas, algo que Camila disfrutaba enormemente. Camila tenía una sonrisa contagiosa que hacía imposible tener un mal día a su lado. Le encantaba ir y volver de la escuela con su mamá y pasar tiempo en su salón después de clases. También amaba ser hermana mayor; su mejor amigo era Dieguito. Él era inseparable de ella y de su mamá. Además, adoraba imitar a su papá, siguiéndolo por la casa mientras hacían “trabajos” juntos y ayudándolo con su cortadora de césped de juguete.

En un instante, Dieguito perdió a las personas que lo amaban, lo protegían y que eran todo su mundo. Actualmente está recibiendo atención médica, enfrentará cirugías y continúa luchando en su proceso de recuperación. Aunque está rodeado de familiares que lo aman profundamente, el peso emocional y financiero de esta tragedia es abrumador para toda la familia. Ninguna familia debería tener que planear los servicios funerarios de tres seres queridos mientras también se preocupa por la atención médica y el futuro de un niño sobreviviente.

Este GoFundMe ha sido creado para apoyar a Dieguito y a nuestra familia en duelo, ayudando a cubrir:

• Gastos hospitalarios, atención médica continua y cirugías de Dieguito;

• Servicios funerarios, entierro y homenajes conmemorativos para su padre, su madre y su hermana (algunos de los cuales están siendo cubiertos por personas que aman a esta familia);

• Gastos inmediatos de manutención mientras los familiares asumen el cuidado de Dieguito;

• Apoyo continuo para brindar estabilidad, seguridad y un futuro a este pequeño cuya vida ha cambiado para siempre.

Cada donación se destinará directamente al cuidado de Dieguito y a honrar la memoria de Diego, Lizbeth y la amada Camila.
