Diego is my friend and a fellow member of our poetry community. He is an incredible poet, storyteller, and community organizer whose presence has made a lasting impact on so many of us. Recently, Diego faced a life-changing challenge: he had to undergo several surgeries, which resulted in the need for physical therapy, an extended period of recovery without working, and rest. This has been a difficult and emotional journey for him, and he is now in the process of healing, starting physical therapy, and taking time off work to recover.

Throughout all of this, Diego has remained resilient and hopeful. The financial burden of medical bills and living expenses during his recovery is significant. As he focuses on healing, he will need support to cover these costs so he can regain his strength and independence without added stress. Your contribution will help Diego pay for essential medical care, therapy, and daily living expenses while he is unable to work.

Diego is a relentlessly supportive, kind, and courageous community member and artist. His poetry and community organizing have given space to dozens of artists of color in our community, and have deepened the offerings of existing poetry events. He is always the first to offer help when I or others have faced hard times, and he has become invaluable to the Portland poetry scene. I know Diego would do the same for each of us if we were in this situation. Now, it’s our turn to support him.
