Hello, my name is Diego Ausecha. I am raising funds to support my mom and myself during this very difficult time.
Since September 7th, my mom has been hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit. She has undergone multiple surgeries and continues to fight for her life. Due to a peritonitis and a poorly done procedure at the beginning, her stomach remains open, and her recovery is very slow and painful. It has been devastating to see her in this condition, but I am committed to being by her side every step of the way.
Thankfully, her health insurance covers most of the major medical expenses, but there are many other costs that are not included. These include her monthly bills and everyday needs such as diapers and wet wipes, which must be covered out-of-pocket.
At the same time, I had to leave my job in the U.S. to be here with her. My workplace has been understanding and has told me that I can remain in Colombia until October 31st (possibly until early November) and still keep my position. However, they are not able to pay me during this time because I do not yet meet the minimum time required at the company to qualify for paid family leave. This means I have no income while I am here caring for my mom, and I am struggling to manage both her expenses and my own in Colombia and in New York.
Your support will help me:
• Cover my mom’s monthly bills and essential needs not included in her insurance.
• Take care of my own living expenses while I stay in Colombia to care for her.
• Keep up with my essential bills in New York during this time without a salary.
Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference and allow me to stay focused on my mom’s recovery without the constant fear of financial collapse. If you are unable to donate, sharing this campaign with others would also mean so much.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your kindness, generosity, and prayers.
Diego
