DiAngelo’s House of Wellness (DHOW) is a startup residential care facility committed to providing community-based support for individuals living with complex mental and physical disabilities. Founded by Pamela Wood, the organization was established in
response to a critical gap in accessible, person-centered care for individuals requiring long-term medical oversight outside of institutional environments. Our model integrates holistic best practices, compassionate caregiving, and innovative approaches designed to enhance dignity, quality of life, and long-term stability.
In April 2020, Pamela’s son, Philip, was violently assaulted in Washington, DC, resulting in a severe Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and significant mental health challenges. He was found unconscious and near death, requiring extensive medical intervention, including a
tracheotomy and feeding tube. Although the tracheotomy and feeding tube have since been removed, Philip remains bedbound and requires consistent medical coordination and daily care. Throughout his recovery journey, Pamela encountered significant limitations within traditional nursing home settings, where individualized growth, autonomy, and holistic well-being were difficult to sustain.
Through this experience, Pamela recognized that conventional nursing home environments were limiting Philip’s potential for recovery and overall quality of life. After an extensive and unsuccessful search for a community-based group home capable of meeting his complex needs, she chose to create a solution herself - an alternative model of care that prioritizes individualized attention, safety, and a healing home environment.
Located in Washington, DC, DHOW offers a safe, supportive, compassionate, nurturing, and healing residential environment. The facility currently serves one (1) client but has the physical capacity to support up to four (4) residents. The program seeks to expand access to high-quality, non-institutional care for individuals who require medical oversight yet benefit from a supportive, residential setting that upholds dignity and promotes long-term stability.
Funding Need and Impact
DHOW is seeking tax-deductible donations to strengthen operational sustainability and expand services. Funding will directly support:
• Residential housing and facility operations
• Medical coordination and case management
• Daily caregiving services and supportive programming
• Capacity-building efforts to increase the number of residents served
Your donation will help create a scalable, community-based model that reduces reliance on institutional care while improving outcomes for individuals with complex medical and mental health needs. There is no donation too small that will not meet the need.
Every contribution supports the development of a compassionate care environment rooted in safety, dignity, compassion, healing, and hope, ensuring that individuals like Philip receive the personalized support necessary to live with greater stability and quality of life.
