Support Diane's Fight: Severe PAH and Long Term Medical Care

On October 21st, 2025, our mom, Diane, went to Reading Hospital for a routine follow-up echocardiogram. What we expected to be a simple appointment quickly turned serious.

Doctors discovered a severe buildup of fluid in her lungs, and a right-heart catheterization revealed critically high pressures of 108. Her medical team grew extremely concerned. The right side of her heart was under dangerous strain, and the left side had significant excess fluid, making it incredibly difficult for both her heart and lungs to function.

A few days later, we were told she had only days to a week to live.

Because of the severity of her condition, Diane was transported to UPenn for more advanced care and further evaluation. The team at UPenn worked around the clock to stabilize her and determine if she might qualify for a bilateral lung transplant. Although she was not a candidate due to extremely high antibody levels, UPenn’s intervention gave her more time and more options than we were first told to expect.

Today, Diane remains in the hospital, continuing to fight with the support of an excellent medical team. She is facing multiple serious conditions, including Severe Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, Scleroderma, Raynaud’s, Sjogren’s Syndrome, and a Connective Tissue Disorder.

Diane is the loving wife of Robert for 44 years, the mother of 6 children, the grandmother of 12, and the great-grandmother of 2. She is the person who keeps our family connected — the one who remembers every birthday, checks in on everyone, and brings comfort wherever she is.

Her daughter is currently on FMLA to be with her every day, advocating for her care and ensuring she is not alone. With her long hospital stay and ongoing need for treatment, we are raising funds to help support medical costs, travel, food, parking, and lost income.

.....…….....… NEWEST UPDATE 12/7/2025

Hi everyone, just wanted to give everyone an update:

Diane (Mom) was sent home from the hospital on November 26th. Coming home was challenging, especially with her bedroom on the second floor, but with the help and support of her children, Justin and Alissa, she was able to get safely settled into her room. Since then, a stair glide has been installed to make it easier and safer for her to get in and out of the house for appointments and hospital visits.

Thanks to the incredible generosity, love, and support from everyone here ❤️, Diane now has a wheelchair, rollator, lifting toilet seat, and a swivel shower bench to assist with her daily needs. She receives daily visits from occupational therapy, physical therapy, CVS specialty nurses, and Bayada nurses, who are all helping her adjust to being home.

Alissa is currently on FMLA leave until mid-January so she can continue caring for her mom full-time. Additionally, Diane and her husband’s insurance plan ends in March 2026, adding to the uncertainty and financial strain the family is preparing for.

Diane is starting a new medication on Tuesday, and the family is praying for as few side effects as possible. She still has a very long road ahead, and her oxygen levels and vitals are being monitored closely every day as they navigate this difficult and unpredictable journey.

Our family is deeply and genuinely grateful for your prayers, kindness, and generosity. It’s overwhelming to think that just a few weeks ago we were told that Mom only had a few days to a week to live… and now she is HOME . While her condition remains unclear, what matters most is that she is here,❤️ and we are cherishing every moment with her.

Any donation, prayer, or share is truly appreciated more than words can express. Your support has carried our family through an unimaginable time.❤️

With gratitude,
The Gray Family
