Diane is an incredibly devoted friend who became a lifeline for my sister, Amy "Soli" Startari, during her most difficult days. When Amy lost her mobility due to Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer that had spread to her spine, Diane was living with her in Irvine, CA. Despite working in Hacienda Heights, Diane made the selfless decision to leave her job so she could care for Amy full-time.

For six months, Diane slept on a hospital chair by Amy’s side, providing comfort and support through every treatment, scan, and oncology appointment. When Amy was finally discharged, Diane continued to care for her at home, stepping in when funds for in-home nursing ran out. She took on the immense responsibility of being Amy’s primary caregiver, often for very little pay from the State of California. Diane’s dedication was unwavering, and she gave everything she had to ensure Amy was never alone in her fight.

Now, after Amy’s passing, Diane is facing her own challenges. She cannot afford her apartment and is at risk of eviction. She also took on significant personal debt to make sure Amy had everything she needed during her recovery. Diane’s kindness and sacrifice have left a lasting impact on our family, and we want to honor her in the same spirit of generosity that defined Amy’s life. Amy was always the first to help someone in need, even when she had little herself. I remember her giving to a busboy who was having a hard day, even though she only had a small amount in her account.
