We've started this Go Fund Me on behalf of my sister, Diane Herlihy. Some of you know she has been battling vulva cancer on and off for 12 plus years now. She's had surgeries/procedures in the past, but she had another very serious reoccurrence late last year.

Earlier this year, she underwent chemo and radiation, and wound up with a very bad radiation burn and wound. Needless to say, sitting is almost an impossible task. The repeat PET scan over the summer showed no improvement of her cancer despite this treatment.

She was just getting  back on her feet after treatment when she started having severe pain at the wound site which radiated down her leg. It was absolutely debilitating for 2–3 months, she was deteriorating quickly.  Despite multiple doctor visits, pain meds,  nerve blocks,  hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and anything that promised relief from the pain, she was not improving.

Diane saw a new GYN oncologist in October who took one look at her and admitted her right to the hospital. The wound was infected and she wound up having sepsis.

During her  week and a half stay at Northern Westchester Hospital she received multiple rounds of IV antibiotics, a blood transfusion, and a colostomy and a supra pubic catheter placed into her bladder, in order to keep the wound clean. She is now navigating to the bathroom in a whole new way.

Diane lost her job at the beginning of September due to her inability to travel for work. Though her job was  remote, she was required to make onsite visits to Canada which she could not fulfill, due to her medical situation.

The main 3 aspects being worked on right now are getting the pain under control, caring for the wound, and physical therapy. While she is making progress with the wound healing, there is  still a very long road ahead of her. As if all of this isn’t enough, she will now be starting immunotherapy in the next week or so,  to deal with the underlying cancer.

Diane’s funds will be depleted very soon. She needs financial help. We are hoping  this Go Fund Me will help with medical insurance payments, house expenses, medical bills, etc.

While this has all been very overwhelming, we are super grateful for the support of friends and family, many of whom are Framily, as Diane will say :)
