Support Diana's Recovery from Acid Attack
Donation protected
On Sunday June 1st, around 1:30pm, Diana was getting off the L at 52nd street to meet with friends, intending to spend her day celebrating Pride in Philadelphia. She was instead brutally attacked by a small group of kids with what doctors later identified as a corrosive acidic fluid, assumed to be battery acid.
A couple who witnessed the attack took her into their home, put her in the shower to get what they could off of her, and called the police and ambulance. The attack leaves Diana suffering from 3rd and 2nd degree burns, covering part of her face, legs and arms, along with most of her neck and torso. She was initially taken to Penn Presbyterian, but, has since been transferred to Temple Burn Center where she will have to stay for the next 3-4 weeks.
We're unsure if this was a premeditated hate crime, but we believe she may have been targeted intentionally. Her attackers were 3 young kids assumed to be between 10-16 and we are still waiting for more information from the police. Neither the assailants nor their parents have been identified yet.
Diana has been in full body gauze since the attack and will need at least two skin grafts; however doctors are telling her to be prepared for multiple surgeries. She's also been directed to take a minimum of one month off from work and will hopefully be going into her first surgery on Friday. Because of the nature of these types of burns, we won't know how they will evolve during her recovery so while we're hoping for the best, we want Diana to be fully supported in case any extra care is needed.
Diana has been in such good spirits given the circumstances and is healing with laughter and love from her friends and family. If you know Diana, you know she’s the sweetest angel and an absolute spitfire.
We’re hoping to raise funds to cover surgery costs, hospital/ambulance bills, rent and other expenses during recovery. Your donations will go directly towards covering Diana’s medical bills and associated expenses as she and the people closest to her heal during this difficult time.
Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference. Please share this page to help us reach others who know Diana and anyone willing to help. We will be posting here regularly to keep everyone updated on Diana’s recovery and how the funds are helping.
Thank you for your love, support, and solidarity.
