Diana went into the hospital on October 1st and was taken emergently to surgery for a boil that had development necrosis and was causing her to be in septic shock. She spent 2 days on the ventilator and a few more in the ICU, and eventually (October 19th) she was transferred to rehab to get her strength back.
Then on November 4th she was sent from rehab back to the hospital for possible wound infection and admitted to the ICU. Eventually she was sent down to the floor then back to the ICU for low blood pressures. It was during this time that the Cardiac ICU doctors took over and determined that Diana was in end-stage heart failure. She has lived with heart failure for many years but the stress from her recent illness caused a rapid decline in heart function.
On December 30th she was transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester to be evaluated for an LVAD to bridge to a heart transplant. At Strong they have run a number of tests and ultimately decided that Diana is not a good candiate for a heart transplant at this time. The family is weighing options for next steps.
On Saturday, January 8 both Steve (Diana's husband) and Diana tested positive for COVID, so they are both in isolation at this time. So far Steve's symptoms are mild and Diana is showing no COVID symptoms (Praise the Lord!).
Diana has been in the hospital or rehab for over 3 months now and this has caused the family a great deal of emotional and financial strain. The trip to the hospital and back home is around 3 hours round trip. Please consider giving to support Diana who has loved and supported so many over the years! And please pray for healing and physical strength, as well as emotional and spiritual strength and encouragement.
