Diana Bueno aka “Mamá Bueno”

66-year-old female from Dallas Texas

Diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in October 2019. Treated with 24 weeks of chemo starting in December 2019. Mastectomy performed afterwards. Was eventually declared NED (No evidence of disease).

Symptoms appeared in March of 2024, and she was eventually diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in October of 2024 with the cancer having spread to multiple organs (lungs, spine, neck, pelvis).

Currently being treated at UTSW in Dallas Texas. She is on chemo again and will remain on chemo indefinitely. Per her oncologist, the current chemo is working to alleviate the cancer but on average in 2 to 2.5 years the cancer will overcome the chemo at which point they will switch to a different chemo drug. Estimated life expectancy is about 4 years. Unfortunately, Diana’s cancer is HR+, HER2 which will not respond to immunotherapy.

The biggest challenge is dealing with the side effects of the chemo – pain, nausea, insomnia and exhaustion. She is working with a palliative doctor to help with these side effects.

Diana is and always has been strong and resilient. She still works full time. She is the Executive Administrator at the headquarters of the Commemorative Airforce which is an organization that keeps WW II airplanes flying.

Diana and I have been together since 2012. She answered my prayer to God when I asked for a wife with a big heart. She has been referred to as “Mama Bueno” by many of her friends as she is always taking care of others. Personally, she not only has made me the happiest I have ever been but also happier than I ever thought was possible.
