Friends and family, I am reaching out to you all asking for your assistance. Although Diamond never asked me to do this, I felt compelled to help. If you are a true Hornet fan, you may remember Dominique Moore, a 2010 graduate of GHS. Dominique tragically passed away in August 2018, leaving behind six children. Their grandmother stepped in to care for them, but as her health declined, her daughter Diamond—my niece—took on the responsibility of raising the children. Diamond is married to Ricky, and together they have four children of their own. Now, Diamond and Ricky are caring for ten children, ages 4 to 16, under one roof.
Diamond is a stay-at-home mother, and Ricky is a full-time soldier in the United States Army, currently stationed in New York. The recent loss of Diamond’s mother has been especially hard on the family. The cost for them to travel on short notice to attend the funeral was significant. The daily expenses—groceries, school clothes, food, clothing, and all the above—are overwhelming in today’s economy. It’s a lot just to take care of three children, but to have ten is truly a challenge. I was blessed to have them stay with me recently, and they shared how challenging it can be physically and financially.
