This is my husband, Dex Borders. He is currently battling Squamous cell carcinoma cancer on the base of his tongue, right tonsil, and lymph node tumor in his neck. Due to the pressure of the tumor on his carotid artery and jugular vein causing dizziness and passing out episodes, he is unable to continue the profession he has had - painting custom homes - since he was 14 years old. Dex is currently trying to get health insurance so he will have a fighting chance at remission, but he is overwhelmed by mounting medical bills and prescription costs.
Dex is a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and is deeply loved by anyone he comes into contact with. He has dedicated his life to his faith and service to others. In the recovery world, Dex has made a huge impact and changed the lives of so many, including his own. Dex has always been known to put a smile on everyone's face and uplift the hurting, doing all he can to help the next person in need. Never would he be the one to ask for help. Being an independent business owner, he has always gone the extra mile to make both the customer and any employee's situation better, never concerned with himself. Even as a child, Dex was a friend to all those who knew him, he has always been the one people would turn to and depend on. Dex has impacted so many lives in such a positive way, I know that we could all come together and help him face this battle knowing he doesn't need to keep struggling to work as it is dangerous for him to do so.
The doctors want to start the 7 weeks of chemotherapy/radiation again to shrink the tumor enough to remove it. Dex suffered greatly from this the first time they started due to extreme weight loss, severe pain, and recurring infections and he had to stop. Now, due to the progression of the disease, they are considering a feeding tube placement, the removal of up to 20 lymph nodes in the right side of his neck, and skin graft surgeries if the chemo and radiation will allow for surgery at all. So, I am reaching out for help through this GoFundMe account for his medical bills, medication cost, living expenses, and all that this consists of. We are truly grateful for any donation and humbled by the outpouring of love and support from our church family and the community. Please keep Dex in your prayers. We know that GOD makes ALL THINGS NEW and works all things out for the good of those that love him. #fightcancer #hopewins #celebraterecovery all funds will contribute to the fight against Cancer.
