Help Devon Overcome Kidney Failure, Heart Surgery & Ongoing Medical Costs
Hello, we are reaching out to ask for help for our dear friend, Devon Boschee, who is facing some of the most challenging health struggles of his life.
For most of his life, Devon has battled Type 1 diabetes, which has caused him to experience acute sickness from time to time. But what began as a few sick days off work in early November quickly escalated into something much more serious. After weeks of extreme nausea and discomfort, Devon was admitted to the hospital, where he learned that his kidneys were failing. With his kidneys functioning at only 10%, he was immediately placed on dialysis, which started the long and difficult journey toward a kidney transplant. Unfortunately, the road ahead is long, with a transplant typically taking anywhere from 3-5 years.
But that wasn’t the end of the story. Just a week later, Devon woke up with intense chest pain and discomfort. After being rushed back to the hospital, he was diagnosed with a heart attack, brought on by dangerously high blood pressure from his failing kidneys.
On December 19th, Devon underwent life-saving triple bypass heart surgery, which was successful, but he still faces many challenges ahead. To make things a bit easier, Devon will soon undergo a minor surgery to set up home dialysis, allowing him to perform treatments while he sleeps instead of making exhausting trips to the hospital multiple times a week.
The Hard Truth: Financial Strain
These past couple of months have been incredibly difficult for Devon. He’s missed work and lost his salary, been in and out of the hospital, and faced constant sickness, all while trying to keep up with mounting medical bills and the expenses of daily life. While Devon is lucky to have health insurance that covers a portion of his medical costs, there are still substantial bills that continue to roll in—especially for his heart surgery, ongoing dialysis treatments, medications, and loss of income.
To make matters even more stressful, Devon purchased his first home this summer, which means he now has higher living expenses, but without his full income to cover them. The combination of medical expenses and the lack of income has put him in a precarious financial situation, and we're doing everything we can to ensure he doesn’t face the added stress of financial instability during such a fragile time.
How You Can Help
Devon is strong, and we all know that with the right care and support, he will get through this. But right now, he needs our help more than ever. Your donation—no matter how big or small—will go directly toward helping cover:
- Medical bills for dialysis treatments, surgeries, and hospital stays
- Prescription medications and ongoing healthcare needs
- Lost wages from months of missed work
- Additional costs of home dialysis setup and treatment
We are asking for your help to give Devon one less thing to worry about, so he can focus on getting better. With your support, we hope to keep him afloat through this difficult time, helping to ease his stress so he can focus on his recovery. This is the first GoFund me goal, with likely more to come down this long road to normalcy.
In a perfect world, Devon will stay healthy enough to be on dialysis until he receives a kidney transplant—and we’re hoping that happens sooner rather than later. But until then, he needs our support to ensure he can continue fighting without the crushing weight of financial strain.
Please consider donating, and if you're unable to, sharing this page with others would mean the world to us.
Thank you so much for your generosity and support.
