Hi, my name is Devin Veney.

I moved to Japan with a dream: to study at one of the best schools in Japan and pursue my education in astrophysics and data science. I’ve been conducting my own machine learning research in collaboration with one of my professors, with hopes that it will eventually get published and contribute meaningfully to the field. For over three years, I’ve dedicated myself to learning, researching, and immersing myself in a new culture, balancing work and school to build a future centered on education and research.

Recently, due to recurring fees, I cannot continue my studies at my current university. This has put me in an impossible situation: my student visa is expiring next month, and without tuition upfront, I cannot enroll in another school fast enough. Leaving Japan now would mean abandoning the education I’ve worked so hard for and the research I’m passionate about.

I currently owe $12,000 in tuition, which I’ve been managing while focusing on my studies. This sudden setback has left me unable to continue legally without support.

I’m reaching out because I truly need help to:

Pay off part of my tuition so I can continue my education,

Cover living and schooling expenses while my visa is updated,

Stay in Japan to continue my education and contribute to research in astrophysics.
