Detective Timothy Higgins has dedicated his life to serving the City of Schenectady, always putting the needs of others before his own. Since joining the police force in 2010, Tim has been a source of strength and compassion for countless individuals during their most difficult moments. He never expected to be the one in need, but now, Tim and his family are facing an unimaginable challenge. After overcoming cancer once before, Tim was diagnosed in 2025 with Peripheral T-Cell Lymphoma, a rare and aggressive cancer. His battle has become even more daunting as he now fights not only cancer, but also sepsis, serious blood infections, and Legionnaires' disease. Tim remains hospitalized and intubated at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, surrounded by a dedicated team of doctors and nurses.

Throughout this ordeal, Tim’s family has shown remarkable courage, temporarily relocating to New York City to be by his side every day. The emotional and financial toll is overwhelming, with mounting costs for temporary housing, travel, meals, parking, medical expenses, and time away from work. The sacrifices of public service are often shared by the entire family, and today, the Higgins family is carrying that burden with extraordinary strength.

There is an old saying that in times of hardship, a community shows its true character by how it cares for its own. While Tim has spent his career helping others through their darkest days, today we have the opportunity to stand beside him and his family.
