Support Destiny's Fight Against Uterine Cancer
Donation protected
Destiny had just achieved her long-held dream of moving to West Yorkshire, UK to be with her husband, Alex, when she received a devastating diagnosis. She is now facing uterine cancer, complicated by advanced endometriosis that has spread throughout her abdomen. Because of these complications, treatment will not be straightforward and will require a major surgery on November 6 with a multidisciplinary team of specialized surgeons.
Destiny received this cancer diagnosis less than one month after relocating to the UK, while she was still getting settled in her new home country. The urgency of her situation means that she will have to be out of work for at least six months while she recovers from surgery. Additionally, the required follow-up treatments are unknown at this time, including the possibility of radiation or chemotherapy and additional abdominal surgeries.
During these upcoming months, Destiny will not only face ongoing cost of living expenses, but also a slew of additional medical costs. Her timeline of recovery will remain uncertain until there is further pathology and a more comprehensive prognosis after the initial surgery. Destiny will require months of rest and recuperation where she will not be able to work, and Alex will have to take an extended leave of absence from his job to act as her primary caregiver.
Destiny is very lucky to be able to access the NHS healthcare system for the required surgery, but there are many medical-related expenses it will not cover. Additionally, she must travel a great distance regularly for her medical appointments. The specialized surgeons are located five hours away near London, which Destiny has been traveling to four times a month, which incurs additional travel, lodging and living expenses. When the surgery happens on November 6, Destiny and Alex will have to relocate to a rental house close to the hospital for the course of her treatment.
Please join us in showing Destiny that she is not alone. Your generosity and care can provide the strength she needs to overcome this difficult diagnosis. Your donation will go towards:
- Airbnb rental close to the hospital where surgery is scheduled (200 miles from her home)
- Gas, lodging, food and traveling to appointments and subsequent treatments
- Medication, equipment and therapies the NHS doesn't cover such as counseling and pelvic rehabilitation
- Rent, utilities and groceries during her recuperation time
- Incidentals and unexpected costs, which there always are
Let's come together as a community to support Destiny, who has brought so much joy to all of us. She needs our help now, more than ever, as she bravely battles this health crisis. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference in easing her financial burdens.
Thank you for your support and generosity.
Much Love,
Alex, Sarah, Britta, Janet, Morgan, and Many of Destiny's Other Friends Around the World
