Support Desmond Yap's Recovery

Aloha, I am Grant Hutaff-Nakamura, a friend and co-worker to Desmond Yap. I grew up Upcountry and learned how to play the Ukulele at Kalama School with Mr. Camarillo. I looked up to Desmond who wrote “Waiting for your Love” and “When is this Love Gonna Last Forever.” If you took Poly in Kalama School, you know exactly what I am talking about. Desmond was the Man!

I have recently had the honor to meet and get to know my “Childhood Hero,” Desmond. He is a kind, respectful, and giving individual. Desmond is married to Rose Yap and they have a total of (4) children.

Desmond loves Jesus, his Ohana, instilling Hawaiian values in the Keiki, and Music. He loves to teach music, play music, and share music. He is part of the Music ministry at the Keala Church of Maui. Along with teaching the Keiki how to play the ukulele/guitar, and being part of the music ministry, Desmond completed (3) music albums, with the newest album He Hawaii Au completed in 2023.

Aside from loving music he is a Juvenile Counselor. He doesn't like to see Keiki on the streets. He takes his position to heart, giving the Keiki a second chance in life. He strives to help pave a road for leading the Keiki in the right direction. He also was a former ukulele teacher at Maui Waena Intermediate.

Desmond is the kind of guy who always makes sure everyone is ok, and taken care of, especially the Kupuna and the Keiki.

I am humbly asking everyone who is able to help Desmond and his family in this time of need. Desmond has recently undergone an emergency surgery for a tear in his aorta. He has been in the hospital since June 27th, without being able to go home or support his family. At this time, Desmond is recovering and is scheduled to be in the hospital for at least another month. It is unknown on other medical procedures that need to happen, and any monetary donations would help. Mahalo for everyone's time to read and share Desmond's story.
