Support Desirae's Thyroid Cancer Recovery

Update: I had a full thyroidectomy on March 14th. My surgeon took out 6 lymph nodes during that surgery and they came back as cancerous. My original prognosis of a slow reacting cancer changed to an aggressive and sneaky form of cancer. I will need radiation in hope of getting rid of the rest of the cancer. I have not even had my post op appointment and now have to plan for radiation treatment. I don’t have much else to say other than thank you to everyone who has reached out and thank you being apart of my shit show.

Hi, for those who don’t know me I’m Desirae Alvarado. I’m 26 and currently work at a childcare center as a teacher. On January 13, I had to take a day off of work to receive 4 biopsy’s. I ended up getting a total of 7 (4 in right, 3 in left). On January 15th, my doctor called to confirm that I have thyroid cancer and my right side was covered in nodules. I thankfully do not need chemo and radiation but I do need to have a full thyroidectomy which is scheduled for March 14th. This is to remove the thyroid in hopes the cancer goes with it. The recovery for the surgery is about 2-3 weeks. I will spend the first day or two after surgery in the hospital then sent home to recover for 2 weeks. I will not be cleared to work until after my follow up appointment on March 28th depending on how recovery is going. My medical bills are adding up fast due to all the test, blood work, MRIs and everything else. My main worry is missing up to three weeks of work with no PTO saved. By the time surgery day is here, I will have 7-8 hours of PTO.. I’m setting up this GoFund me to not only help ease my stress but make sure my partner doesn’t have to take all of the financial burden. I would like to focus on recovering so anything will be helpful. Thank you in advance and let’s kick this cancers ass!
