Deshawn had just started a new job and was determined to make it work. Without a car, he walked nearly two hours each way to get to and from work every single day. Rain or shine, he showed up—never late, never complaining. His dedication inspired his coworkers so much that they came together to buy him an electric bike, hoping to ease his journey and give him a break from the long walks.

But on the very first day riding his new bike home, tragedy struck. Deshawn was hit by a car going 65 miles per hour. The impact dragged him over 100 feet, leaving him with devastating injuries.

He is now in the hospital facing multiple surgeries, including:

• Skin, tissue, and bone grafting on his right leg

• A broken left ankle

• A fractured back

• Severe road rash covering his entire right side

Despite the pain and uncertainty ahead, Deshawn is fighting with the same strength and determination that got him walking miles to work every day.
