Support Derrick's Study Abroad Spain Trip

Dear potential supporters,

My name is Derrick Griffin and I am a college student (JR) currently majoring in Film & Media at Georgia State University and a member of The Honors College. I have been accepted into the Spain study abroad program for the upcoming summer semester, an opportunity that I am incredibly grateful for. However, while I have secured funding for my program through the Hope scholarship, Pell Grant, and IAS, I need additional support to fund my documentary as I will be traveling throughout Spain, capturing vital information, visiting historic sites and interviewing the local people and communities.

My goal for this study abroad experience goes beyond personal enrichment. I am passionate about creating a documentary that showcases the transformative power of studying abroad and aims to inspire other African American male students in my community to pursue similar opportunities. By sharing my journey, challenges, and successes through this documentary, I hope to break down barriers and encourage more young men from underrepresented backgrounds to explore the world and broaden their horizons.

I believe that representation matters, and by documenting my experiences in Spain, I can provide a relatable and inspiring narrative for others who may be hesitant to embark on similar journeys. Your support in funding my flight to Spain will not only enable me to participate in this life-changing study abroad program but also help me in my mission to empower and uplift my community through storytelling.

I am committed to using this opportunity to positively impact and create a meaningful piece of work that resonates with and motivates others.
