Update: I have received surgery on my thumb and it has been casted. I have been out of work for the last 3 months and are expected to be out for recovery for at least another 4 months. We have been stretching every dollar we can, and now we are unable to make our rent and bills to keep myself and my growing family safe in our home.
My name is Derrick Williams. I am known by many hats: Father of 2, Son, Husband, Brother, Friend, Leader. I work two jobs, and in both jobs, I am in a supervisor position. I am deeply needed by each of them and provide for them with everything in me. I have been successful in providing for my family and gaining a strong sense of pride in what I can bring to the table.
One of the things I was proud to accomplish was getting this Civic on my own in March of this year. I had it for 6 months before a reckless driver slammed into my vehicle and took me out of work for weeks.
On September 28th, I was coming back to the office after finishing a moving job and sitting at a red light in my Civic. Then a reckless driver was turning at a high rate of speed and made a head-on collision into my car. The impact immediately deployed the two front airbags, one of which severely burned and damaged my dominant right wrist and hand. I was taken to the hospital via ambulance and seen for my injuries. Since then, my skin has been peeling from the burns, deep aching in my elbow and shoulder, and severe migraines and brain fog.
Before this accident, I was interim director and in strong first position for obtaining the promotion permanently. I have been out for weeks due to the medical professionals and HR's requirements to stay home and heal. This not only stopped my ability to go in each day, but I fear will now take my promotion away as well.
Insurance has deemed $14k worth of damages to my car, and with a $24k sticker price, that leaves $10,000 left to pay off for a car I do not have and cannot drive. Beyond that, being out of work has ceased the monetary income to pay for all of our bills and keep food in our stomachs. With my second son turning one and all of the holidays coming up, we want to do the best we can for our family and create as many happy and peaceful memories as possible. I was very hesitant on making this because I don't usually like asking people for money. If whoever can donate, that would be awesome, but to those who can't, I still appreciate you.
