My brother in law Derrick Sserwanja was arrested by undercover ice agents upon leaving the immigration court at fort snelling recently. He is currently being held at the Sherburne County jail in Elk river. Although Derrick came to the United States legally through a program with the University of Minnesota and is now here on a work permit, ICE has still taken him into custody.

Derrick is married to my sister Emily and they have a beautiful boy named Ezra.

They have been going to immigration hearings since 2021 to approve his marriage visa.

Our family is heartbroken about the current climate of what’s happening to good people who just want to live a quiet life here in the States. Derrick is such a kind human being, incredible human and a loving father. He just wants to be able to see their son, Ezra, grow up and grow old with his wife.

Recently our family was blessed to find an attorney by the name of Gloria Contreras Edin. She was our last hope in finding help for Derrick. She has agreed to take on his case and she is very passionate about his case.

My sister, Ezra and our family love him so much and are praying that he can come home to us.
