Support Derrick Garcia's family in their time of loss

Our hearts were broken on March 10, 2025. We lost beloved Derrick Garcia, father to Frankie, Mia & Ethan and son of Javier & Zoila. Derrick loved hockey, saltwater fish tanks, and classic cars. He had many passions, but his children were the light of his life. He was a wonderful parent, and he loved his children deeply. He was very dedicated to his entire family and to his work. Derrick was a very hard worker and good employee who never missed a day.

He grew up in New York City and was a police officer with NYPD. NYC is where his love of hockey originated. The sense of community that hockey brought to Derrick’s life continued when he relocated to Houston in 2011. He was an impressive goalie and great teammate. He genuinely cared about his team and always had the best attitude no matter how the game went. He played on several teams throughout the years and made lasting connections with everyone he met.

We are starting this page to help support his family in their time of need. The funds raised here will be going towards his final expenses and the remainder will be left to his 3 children he leaves behind.

Derrick was a father, a son, a brother, an uncle and a friend. We will hold onto the memories of his generous spirit. This loss is heavy, and we will always feel his absence.

Additionally, a celebration of life will be held on Saturday March 15th at 12pm at 3016 Monticello Pines Lane, League City TX. We can gather and share stories and memories of Derrick surrounded by everybody who loved him. His ashes will be spread in Houston and in NYC.
